Smudging: have you ever heard about it?
For people who are sensitive to energies smudging is a necessity!
Just bought a new house? Moved into a new place? Smudge!
Not feeling fabulous? Maybe a little down, pissed off or sad? Smudge! Clear the air!
Smudging is a great way to get rid of all the caca energies that don’t belong to you or that you don’t want to take on. Who wants the stagnating, depressing energy from the ex owner of the house you just bought? What if the couple that rented your new apartment used to fight a lot? Don’t want that energy around you especially if you are working on attracting a new man in your life! We have enough of our own stuff to deal with let’s not take on other people’s as well!
When I do readings I always smudge before the session and especially after. It completely clears the air and leaves a fresh clean, light, neutral energy in the space. I also use the ritual of smudging to clear my own energy field and clear anything I might have taken on from you. I love you guys, I do, and because I care for you and feel your emotions fully when I do a reading I really need to let it go when we are done or I will get really really fat from emotional over eating!
What can be smudged:
- your home
- your work space
- an object
- a crystal
- a person
- a pet
So here’s how you smudge: get yourself a nice wand made of sage. Here’s what they look like:
You can get them anywhere online; just Google it. Ideally the sage would be organic as well.
There are different types of herbs you can use to smudge but Sage is one of the most clearing one to use.
Extra bonus points if you light 4 white candles before you begin smudging. Place them North, South, East, West corner of a room. The ritual of lighting white candles calls upon the Divine light of the Goddess for protection and purity.
As you light the sage stick affirm your intention to purify the space as well as yourself. If you want you can call upon your protectors (Angels, Guides, Animal Totems) to assist you in the purification and clearing. Intention is very powerful and is key in any ritual. You might want to use a fire-proof container to collect the ashes as the sage is burning. A shell is pretty and does the trick.
The smoke is what clears the energy and if you use a big wand it’ll make a lot of smoke so open all the windows and imagine all the negative energy leaving out the window. Out with the old!
Go through each room (clockwise) in your house smudging and re-affirming your intention to have a pure, light & love filled space, commanding that any energies that are not serving your highest good leave out the window now. I like the word commanding; it gives you full power to decide what you want in your house or in your energy field.
When you have smudged all the rooms you wanted say a little thanks to Goddess or your protectors and put out the stick. I use sand or water.
Voilà!
Brand new, fresh, uplifting, clear energy!
A few more tips and tricks to clear your space or yourself
Taking an Epson salt bath with also clear your energy field. I found a brand I really love called Invocation. I’m in no way associated with them so I’m not making any money recommending this product! I just adore it and think it’s super powerful.
At the store I do not use sage since I don’t want the clothes to smell like smoke. I use a liquid smudge from Invocation. It works very well, I can carry it in my purse and it smells lovely.
Another way of smudging without smoke is to use Epson salt, rubbing alcohol and fire. In a fire-proof container (like a dish you would put in the oven) pour the Epson salt and cover with enough rubbing alcohol. Make sure you are doing this safely and have a lid to put out the fire if necessary. . With a long match light the mixture. The flame will burn until all the negative energies have been burned away. Choose I safe spot to put the container and leave it there until the flame has extinguished.
